Eleanor Winn, 17, winner of the 2015 Connell Guides Essay Prize

 Congratulations Eleanor Winn!

Eleanor Winn – a sixth form pupil at St Paul’s Girl’s School in London – has won our 2015 Essay Prize!  We’re thrilled for Eleanor, who won for her striking appraisal of Jez Butterworth’s play Jerusalem. When we called Eleanor to let her know she had won, she was slightly shocked but clearly delighted!  Once the news had settled in, Eleanor said “To be able to write about anything I wanted was such a unique opportunity, and to actually win was something I never could have imagined! Having Philip Pullman read (and actually like) my essay is so surreal and amazing…it really hasn’t sunk in! It’s particularly special because Philip Pullman has always been my favourite author.”

We’ll be meeting with Eleanor soon to present her with the £500 prize and a full set of Connell Guides.
